Many have sought
to reproduce the realism that only true stereopsis can provide. Now, after
years of of research, StereoMed introduces a superior method for viewing
and recording stereoscopic images:
The Reality® Stereoscopic (3D) Video System Vision in three
dimensions
Stereoscopic medical imaging is the most advanced method of viewing and documenting a procedure. Stereo images are easier to grasp, more natural to work with, more dramatic to view, and easier to recall. However, frequently those observing a procedure on operating room monitors only have access to flat images of the event. Now StereoMed's advanced full-color video display, recording, and playback system breaks through the limitations of two-dimensions. With the StereoMed system true three-dimensional viewing is available not only to the surgeon, but to others in the O.R., to students in a university hall a mile away or research team across the world. Contours and features formerly obscured by the limitations of standard video stand out in sharp relief when examined stereoptically. |
Playback
Three-dimensional video playback is the ideal means of studying difficult and subtile areas of a medical procedure, sharing information with colleagues and researching new areas. This is the superior method of publication and presentations at seminars, conferences and lectures. The StereoMed system is eminently practical because it utilizes conventional videocassette recorders, monitors and operating room microscopes.StereoMed: The Simple Answer
Unlike many systems billed as 3-D, which in fact merely simulate a three-dimensional viewpoint, StereoMed imparts true stereopsis, the unique experience of two-eyed depth perception. With StereoMed's advanced technology, a standard video monitor reproduces the same images which the operating surgeon views through the stereo microscope.Until now, stereoscopic video systems were complicated and expensive. Only a handful of facilities around the world have been able to afford them. StereoMed offers the latest advance in stereoscopic imaging at less than half the cost of previous systems. Only StereoMed's practical system makes it easy to produce fully-dimensional video.
The StereoMed system uses two video cameras which are precisely aligned to the microscope. The system's StereoEncoder electronically combines the separate signals produced by the right and left cameras and relays the resulting blend to a VCR and monitor. An infrared transmitter attached to the monitor activates the electronic viewing glasses.
The Ideal Addition to the Operating Room
The three-part StereoMed system is designed to easily interface with standard operating room and A/V equipment. This complete and ready-to-use package, requires only a standard microscope, VCR and video monitor.
In collaboration with Stereomedia Productions and the University of Southern California School of Medicine, have completed the first in a series of stereoscopic 3D videos entitled "The Eyes of Medicine: Views from Within."

This journey into stereo-microneurosurgery introduces the latest, most advanced neuro-surgical procedures and techniques featuring some of the most gifted surgeons in practice today.
The first edition includes six different operations, as seen through the eyes of the surgeon, in full color and Stereoscopic 3D. Other surgeries StereoMed has photographed include: aneurysm, complete knee replacement, spine surgery (C1-C2 fixation and screw) and laproscopy (chole & thoracoscopy), to name a few.
